When a couple is happy, we have the best shot at having happy children and a happy home. This presentation will focus on positives and on presenting some tools that will help all of us to be the best we can be.

How many tribal aunts, uncles and cousins does it take to build a great Scholar?  Apparently the number varies--but one thing that is sure--when we create Tribal Communities of our own, we create safe places for the seeds of scholarship to be nurtured and grow.  Because a culture emerges which values quality and transformational education, we build mentors and peers that support the growth of scholarship in themselves and in others.  A Tribal Community gives the love, support, and caring that is needed for growth but, more importantly, it also provides the challenges in which

For years, business leaders have developed and studied leadership skills, seeking to more effectively run companies and work with their colleagues. To become more effective, business leaders understand the necessity of developing skills in self discipline, meaningful planning, time management, organization, and situational leadership. These same leadership skills can be utilized by homeschooling parents. Study and incorporation of these skills helps parents create an unparalleled learning environment, one that encourages learning from every member of the family.

Is English a broken language? We have been led to believe that it is illogical and irregular, complicated and difficult to learn. Ignorance of our language is the barrier and stumbling block to personal and political liberty. English is the most powerful language in the world – for thinking and for social freedom. How we teach it matters as much as whether or not we teach it. Students stumble over reading and writing. Their lack of information and skills affects thinking, reading, comprehension, and communication.

Wondering how to inspire students to take on challenges, to risk failure, to work hard and do hard things? Learn what has revolutionized teaching and learning for me and my students. Problem – most people do not recognize their own genius, they lack the vision and confidence to act on and develop their own brilliance. They choose mediocrity because they don't know what else to do. Mentors are needed who teach skills, encourage hearts, and shift mindsets in ways essential to cultivating genius and meaningful learning.

After 12 years of liberal self education, Blaine has discovered not only his own life mission, but how others can find and fulfill theirs.

In many ways, beauty has gone to sleep in our world. Troubling challenges are upon us; it's a love of beauty that will keep hearts from failing. Mothers who cover the walls with great art that inspires souls instead of paintings to match the couch; who share thoughts from their own hearts from great literature rather than empty words written merely to entertain; who take their child by the hand and help him feel the stories and wonders of nature—these are the mothers who will raise children capable of standing strong in the perilous days ahead.

Have you made lists and schedules in order to organize your life, home, and family's studies, only to sabotage your own honest efforts? Or have you worked hard on schedules and structure and then have your family declare mutiny? Not all of us have an "A-Type" personality that thrives on structure and organization. In fact, many people rebel against such structure! But if that's the case, how do we give our children a home environment conducive to learning? And how do we "free-spirit" types provide structured time when we've tried and failed at scheduling so many times?

Cities, counties and states routinely create legislation that affects homeschoolers.  However, because homeschoolers represent a very small portion of the electorate, indirect effect that laws have on homeschool families is rarely considered.  In 2011 the city of Clearfield passed a law that makes it a crime for a child to be unaccompanied in a public place while school is in session.  Also in 2011, the city of Provo attempted to pass a similar law—it was defeated by the involvement of many homeschool families throughout the state.

Stories carry ideas into the heart which is what makes them so powerful. The early 1900's saw a revival in the art of storytelling among mothers. The ‘Greatest Generation’ followed. They left behind their lessons on how to tell stories as well as a treasury of stories to tell. When the lights are low and your child is in a quiet, receptive mood, the stories told to him will never be forgotten and their influence will follow him the rest of his life. Sharing stories from the heart weave hearts together and create bonds that are nearly impossible to break.

An average, ordinary kid, found himself in WWII stationed at the anti-aircraft guns on the USS Chicago while under attack from Japanese bombers. The ship had already been hit by six torpedoes and was going down. This kid took down one of the enemy planes before machine gun fire from another struck him in the back. He stayed at his post and shot down yet another enemy plane. Refusing to leave until the attack ended, he walked off the ship minutes before it went under.
